Mother of two beat and bit hand of stranger in ‘peculiar’ attempt to get free education

A street mugger justified her violent attack on a stranger at a bus stop as a way of getting a free education.

Sharon Bentley, 54, was waiting at a bus stop on her way to work when Ms Williams went to grab her handbag, resulting in a vicious attack which only ended when a passing taxi driver intervened. Cabbie John McGuire was only able to save Mrs Bentley after she had been punched 30 times and had part of her hand bitten off.

"Amelia Williams is reported to have told her barrister she did not want to burden her family or the state with the cost of her education."
